Yesterday I shared with you what we did in Poland, today I share what we ate and drank.
I started off strong with beer (piwo in Polish) and pierogi and by the end of the trip I was eating at Italian restaurants and drinking vodka and wine. We ate out and in equal amounts – we had as many breakfasts/dinners at my friend’s home as we did at restaurants and at the hotels.
The food we ate was some of the freshest food I have ever had – the produce and bread were amazing. I think I had the best cucumbers and tomatoes ever while there, purchased from a market we passed walking to my best friend’s home from our hotel. I loved oscypek, a hard, salty cheese from nonpasteurized sheep milk which is smoked over a fire – I won’t be able to find it here in Chicago which is a shame.
My favorite meal the entire trip was at a steak night we had, grilling on the balcony- everyone pitched in and I felt like I was at home.
My favorite restaurants were Aqua e Vino for creative Italian food, Wesele Restauracja for Polish food, and the breakfast buffet at the Hotel Pod Roza. I won’t go into details about my least favorite meals, but one was at a Thai restaurant and one was at a Polish restaurant.
The hotel the wedding was at in Jaslo, Zajazd Pod Skala, also had delicious food – Mr. B’s favorite meal was there, a nalesniki dish made with chicken and mushrooms.
