Easy Cinnamon French Toast Recipe

This cinnamon French toast is a delicious breakfast recipe made with simple ingredients. Top with fresh fruit, nuts, and a drizzle of maple syrup.

I realized that I only eat French toast when I go out for breakfast or brunch. It doesn’t make sense because it is so easy to make, and I really like it.

The only sensible thing to do here is, of course, share a French toast recipe!

I have a great recipe for baked French toast casserole with blueberries, but this is a simple French toast recipe, perfect for lazy weekend mornings and easy enough for weekday breakfast.

What kind of bread should I use for French toast?

Every classic French toast recipe includes basic ingredients you can buy at your local grocery store. I think that’s what makes it such a classic recipe.

The best type of bread for good French toast is thick bread. Texas toast, brioche, or French bread slices are my favorite for thick slices of bread.

I will use white bread or whole wheat bread in a pinch, but the best bread is thick bread.

How To Make Cinnamon French Toast

Add butter to a large skillet once you have whisked up your eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and milk in a shallow dish.

Soak the bread slices in the egg mixture and place them on the hot skillet one by one.

Cook each bread side for 1-2 minutes until it’s golden brown and toasty, and then remove it from the skillet.

Repeat until all the cinnamon french toast is cooked. If you are like me… you will eat a slice hot off of the skillet. It smells so good!

I like to cut each slice into triangles and place them on a long dish to serve it.

Then, I top it with fresh blueberries and pecan pieces before I drizzle a liberal amount of maple syrup on top.

You won’t be able to resist making this easy breakfast recipe at least once a month.

What do you top French toast with?

You are not out of luck if you don’t like berries, have a nut allergy, and are out of syrup. Classic French toast is topped with butter, warm maple syrup, or powdered sugar.

The sugar option and 3 slices of bacon were my favorite breakfast on Saturday mornings as a kid.

Here are some French toast toppings suggestions instead of maple syrup:

  • Marscapone cheese
  • brown sugar
  • fresh berries
  • honey
  • jam
  • peanut butter
  • whipped cream

Cinnamon French Toast

Yield: 4 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

This cinnamon French toast with simple ingredients is an excellent addition to your next brunch. Top with fresh blueberries, pecans, and maple syrup.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bread, cut thick (brioche is my favorite)
  • 4 large eggs
  • ⅔ cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • butter
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat a medium skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Whisk together eggs, milk, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt in a shallow bowl.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to a skillet or griddle and allow to melt, being careful that it doesn’t burn.
  3. Dip a slice of bread in the egg mixture, letting it soak until it is covered on both sides.
  4. Place soaked bread onto the hot skillet and fry on each side until golden and cooked through for about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Repeat with each bread slice, adding butter to the skillet as needed.
  6. As desired, serve hot and garnish with fresh blueberries, pecan pieces, and maple syrup.

Notes

You can substitute butter with cooking spray.
