8 great candy apple recipes perfect for autumn parties and Halloween!Autumn came to Chicago with a storm the other day. Even though I love it (and scarves!) I was trying to deny that fall was coming. But the wind blew and the rain fell (sometimes it blew too) and thoughts of holiday seasons started popping in my head.
I even heard Christmas music at a department store. Literally, I stopped in my tracks.
Anyway, when I was a kid one of the first things that made me realize fall was here were the candy apples. Here in Chicago I usually refer to them as taffy apples (that is the name of a company that produces them here) but I’ve also heard them called caramel apples. Really, they’re all just apples covered in sweet goodness.
The taffy apple company here had a deal with my grade school land- we would receive an order form to take home with us. It was a taste of Christmas when our taffy apple order came in and we could take it home.
It was all very exciting for a grade schooler. As I’ve gotten older the novelty has worn off a little bit but it is still a sign of fall and Halloween and holidays to me. Luckily, you can make your own candy apples at home. I have rounded up 8 candy apple recipes and I’ve also found some candy apple versions of other sweets and treats.
And if you are having a party this season, consider throwing in a candy apple bar like this one from Craftberry Bush:
