Refreshing Orange Mojito Cocktail Recipe

An Orange Mojito cocktail is the perfect refreshing easy drink recipe. The ingredients are simple – rum, fresh mint, oranges, and sugar!

I love making variations on my favorite cocktails, especially when starting with a classic cocktail recipe.

Sometimes, it is a simple swap, like substituting bourbon for vodka in my Kentucky Mule recipe.

Other times, I add an ingredient like simple syrup from hibiscus to my hibiscus Paloma.

The first time I ever tasted a mojito was over 10 years ago – time flies, doesn’t it? After that first sip, I wondered why I’d never tried this perfect cocktail.

Don’t worry – I made up for it.

I wanted a mojito on one of those hot summer days last year. This was a severe want – almost a need.

I was going to make a traditional mojito but decided on a fun twist when buying mint at the grocery store. Some oranges caught my eye, and the rest was history.

I love a good excuse to break out my bar tools. Muddlers are not just for mint juleps, after all.

How do you make a mojito?

Muddle mint, 1 lime wedge, and 1 orange wedge in a glass or cocktail shaker. You can use a thick wooden spoon if you don’t have a muddler.

Add more lime and orange wedges in equal parts and the sugar to the mixture and muddle again. If you’re using a cocktail shaker, pour the contents into an empty glass.

Fill the glass with ice cubes to the top and then pour in the light rum – the best part! Top with some club soda and garnish.

My favorite garnishes are orange slices, fresh mint leaves, and a lime slice.

Sounds like a simple mojito cocktail, right?

Orange Mojito Recipe Ingredients

Fresh ingredients are the key to this ultimate summer cocktail. The addition of oranges adds a refreshing twist to classic mojito ingredients.

  • Mint, oranges, and limes
  • Cane sugar (like Sugar in the Raw)
  • White rum
  • Soda water

Can I use simple syrup instead of cane sugar?

Yes! You can use store-bought simple syrup or make your own. Add equal amounts of sugar and water into a pot and heat it until the sugar dissolves.

Wait until the syrup cools, and add 1 tablespoon of simple syrup to the mojito instead of cane sugar.

I love mojitos and wonder why I've never thought to add orange to them - thanks for the inspiration and the recipe! They definitely are a refreshing summer drink. Hubby and I did a LOT of binge watching of Sons of Anarchy last winter. Enjoy!!
